Baltimore Student Exchange Program (BSEP)

Colleges/Universityes participating in the Baltimore Student Exchange Program are:

Baltimore Hebrew University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Coppin State University, Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Morgan State University, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Towson University, University of Baltimore, UMBC, Stevenson University

Enrollment

  • The program allows only full-time Loyola sophomores, juniors, or seniors may enroll in one undergraduate course offered during the Fall and Spring semesters at the above colleges/universities. No summer enrollments are permitted through the BSEP.
  • Enroll only in courses substantially different from courses offered at Loyola.
  • A student may enroll in only one BSEP course (except at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland) per semester.

  • Courses may not be taken on a pass-fail basis.

  • Participation in the BSEP requires permission from a counselor in the Academic Advising and Support Center, the faculty advisor, a minimum QPA of 2.000, and the course must be open.

  • All necessary forms may be obtained from the Records Office and the completed forms must be submitted with the Registration Request Form no later than the end of the scheduled add/drop period at Loyola. Students cannot register for these courses via WebAdvisor.

  • Approved courses will appear on your web-accessible schedule each semester at the start of classes. Students will be notified by the Records Office if courses are not approved. Information regarding course status can be obtained by calling the Records Office 410-617-2482.

  • Independent study courses, internship, special tutorials, private study, or private lesson courses (except at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, fee required) may not be taken through the BSEP program.

  • Credit value of courses, calendar, and class/exam schedules should be noted.


Location
  • BSEP participants are 10 - 45 minutes driving time from Loyola.

  • Students must provide their own transportation.

Grades
  • Both the grade and the credits are transferred to Loyola, and the grade is computed in the Loyola QPA. Quality points associated with the grade will be those used in the Loyola grading/quality point system.


Graduation
  • If you are a senior graduating in May 2010 and plan to take take a BSEP course in Spring 2010; you are responsible for the following: (1) making arrangements with the instructor at the host institution to complete the course requirements, including the final examination prior to Loyola's commencement; and (2) making arrangements with the instructor to have the Registrar at the host institution submit your final grade to the Loyola University Records Office no later than Monday, May 10, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Contact the BSEP Coordinator, Gail Stack, at extension 2482 if you have any questions or need assistance.
  • If your grade is received in the Records Office by Monday, May 10, 2010 and you are cleared for graduation, you will be allowed to participate in the Commencement exercises; however, your diploma will not be released until the official transcript is received in the Records Office from the BSEP school.

  • If your grade is NOT received in the Records Office by the Monday before commencement, you may be prevented from participating in the commencement ceremony.

Rules and Regulations
  • All students taking a course at a college/university through BSEP agree to abide by all the rules and regulations, academic and otherwise, of the host institution. Students with infractions are subject to the same disciplinary procedures as apply to a regular student of that institution.
