Prerequisite: SC101, SC102. Restricted to juniors and seniors. Examines the social aspects of urban life in modern America. Topics include patterns of city growth; the loss of traditional community; the growth of the underclass; social disorder; economics; and the welfare state. Special emphasis is given to the social organization within the community (e.g., neighborhood associations, faith congregations, business and political coalitions, and interpersonal networks). IAF/IU
