HS346  Revolutionary America     (3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: HS101. The social, economic, and political causes and consequences of the American Revolution are explored. The course is divided into three parts. The first investigates the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence. The second analyzes the social experience of war for different groups in American society and examines the new governments established at both the state and national levels. The third traces the transformations wrought (and not wrought) by the Revolution in American society and politics. Traditional lectures are occasionally given, but the bulk of class time is spent discussing the readings and documents as well as the ideas and arguments in them. GT/IU
